A part of the FAMSF (Finee Arts Musem of San Francisco) it is more of destination than a museum. Besides the permanent collection, there of special exhibits, Friday evening activities (January - November) and daily activities for children and families.

Create your own Gallery: My Gallery (online only) allow the user to create their own virtual exhibit by choosing from the digitized works of arts contained in the de Young and the Legion of Honor collections. Saturday Art Classes for ages 4-12. FWA: Taught by professional artist-teachers, children learn by seeing and making art. Most Saturdays, excluding holiday weekends. No reservations necessary. 10:30 a.m. to noon (general public) and 1:30 to 3 p.m. (museum members only), Kimball Education Gallery. Register 15 minutes before the start of class. Programs begin promptly. Free
Artist Studio Program: Each month a different Bay Area artist transforms the Kimball Education Gallery into a working art studio. Meet the artists Wednesdays through Sundays, 1 to 5 p.m. No reservations necessary. Free
After-school classes for 1st-to-8th-graders: These afternoon art programs provide an in-depth look at the de Young’s collections and how artworks connect with their schools' social studies curriculum. Reservations required. Free
Friday Nights at the de Young: From mid-January through November the de Young stays open on Friday evenings until 8:45 p.m. Programs are fun for all ages and connect with the art on display. No reservations necessary. Free
